The easiest landing spot for people relocating. Clean streets, wide sidewalks, malls within walking distance — it's as close to a planned city as Manila gets. Busy, modern, and fast-moving, but in an organized way. Not the most characterful, but very livable, especially when you're still finding your feet.
Go to: The Mind Museum, Bonifacio High Street, rooftop drinks at sunset
★ Hotels and Airbnbs available

Older, full of character, and more lived-in than BGC, Makati has decades of city grit behind it — energetic side streets, well-loved neighborhood joints, a blend of modern and brutalist architecture. A bustling business district by day, a charming hub of rooftop gems and markets on the weekend.
Go to: Salcedo Saturday Market, Ayala Triangle Gardens, Greenbelt

A note on getting around
Distances in Manila are measured in traffic, not kilometers. Most trips between these areas are 15 – 45 minutes by Grab, depending on the time of day. Plan accordingly
You don't need to leave the country to reset. These are some favorite getaways, according to colleagues — all within a few hours of the city

Cooler air, Taal Volcano views, and a good excuse to get out of Manila for the day. Usually, we go there for boat rides and stay for the food. About 1.5 hours from the city on a good traffic day.Club Balai Isabel is a peaceful lakeside resort with some of the best views of Taal Lake. Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm is a relaxing stop for locally made honey, soaps, and wellness products. And if you're with kids or just feel like something unexpected, Puzzle Mansion houses one of the world's largest collections of jigsaw puzzles.

For a slower kind of escape, Kilyawan Farm Resort is a lush farm-resort retreat that feels genuinely removed from the city: open fields, native architecture, and farm-to-table food. A perfect reset for a long weekend without the airport queue.

Hidden Valley Springs has lush forests, waterfalls, and natural pools about two hours south of Manila. A good call for a slow Sunday, and a great idea to spend time with family.

Masungi Georeserve is a nature escape that doesn't require a flight. Colleagues suggest booking in advance to check out trails and limestone formations. A good half-day out of the city.If you want a slower pace, you can opt for an art immersion at Pintô Art Museum, a contemporary art museum complex in Antipolo, Rizal. Beautifully designed, worth an afternoon.

The culinary capital of the Philippines and an easy day trip north of Manila. Our colleagues go there hungry.

About 4 – 5 hours away from Manila is Camp John Hay Eco-Trail in Baguio. Further than the others, sure, but cooler mountain air makes it worth the excursion. Ideal for a day trip, best as an overnight.

Lago de Oro Beach Club is a favorite spot among colleagues for a day of water sports on the South China Sea. About two hours from Manila, it's the Philippines' first cable wakeboarding park — good for a proper active day out of the city.
Our CMO, Stanislav Izmaylov, shares three tried-and-tested getaways from Manila.

Fly via Hong Kong Express — that's what Stas suggests for a quick, easy, and usually cheaper alternative to a longer trip.
There's often a Friday flight at around 9:00 pm, so you can leave after work, arrive in Hong Kong in under 3 hours, explore the full Saturday, and be back by Sunday.

Another Stas-approved route: take the train from Hong Kong to the mainland.
Worth adding to your itinerary: Shenzhen is 15 minutes from Hong Kong by train, Guangzhou is 45. Often cheaper and easier than flying directly to mainland China — just check visa requirements for your passport before booking.

At under 4 hours from Manila, Seoul is close enough to book on impulse or even when plans fall through — just ask Stas. He booked a trip to Seoul for a Russian comedy show, but it got canceled.
He went anyway, and had a great time regardless. The atmosphere, the food, the energy — Seoul can exceed expectations even when the original plan doesn't.

A short checklist that covers 90% of what trips up first-time visitors

Rough estimate for one person. Figures are in USD, and PHP equivalents are based on a rate of ₱61 to $1, as of 17 August 2026. Check current rates before budgeting precisely

Where you live changes this estimate more than anything else.
1-bedroom condo in BGC or Makati:$800 – $1,400/month. The easiest, most plug-and-play option — close to offices, malls, and expat-friendly amenities, but it's also the priciest per square meter in the city
3-bedroom unit outside the BGC/Makati high-rise residences$300 – $1,200/month , depending on the building and how new it is. Moving away from the glass towers gets you significantly more space for similar, or even lower cost than a 1-bedroom in BGC
2-bedroom inside a BGC high-rise$1,200 – $2,100/month. The premium gets you a modern building, walkable location, and usually a gym and pool included — but you're paying for the address as much as the space
Manila may not have many large parks, but there are plenty of green spaces woven into the city where you can slow down, get some air and take a break from the fast pace of city life. Track 30th in BGC, Jaime Velasquez Park and Legazpi Active Park in Makati are some local favorites.

BGC for ease, walkability, and modern hotels. Makati — especially Legazpi, Salcedo, Rockwell — for parks, weekend markets, nightlife, and more local character. Both are international-friendly.
